Kyphosis of the spine

Kyphosis is said to be an excessive increase of the normal curvature of the thoracic region of the spine. It is one of the most common problems that may occur throughout the life of a man, from childhood to old age. Kyphosis is a common problem and should be identified as early as possible and always be taken seriously in order to avoid major problems throughout life.

Kyphosis categories: A kyphosis distinguished:
-in flexible and rigid-based mobile or otherwise of the curve
-in smooth and angular or oxyaichmi based on the shape of the curve
-in juvenile and senile based on the age of the patient

Symptoms
The symptoms of kyphosis is pain which as the time passes becomes larger, muscle spasm in the paravertebral muscles and compensatory lordosis, so that the shoulders bend forward and down, shoulders to project backwards and belly forward.

 Therapy – Physiotherapy tackle

Patient’s history, radiological examinations and clinical picture are three important factors which will depend on will determine its treatment of the disease.
If the increased kyphosis shows that it is rigid and is less than 15 ° – 20 °, placed splint receiving and neck.
The conservative treatment aimed at young patients, where the development of the skeleton has not been completed. If kyphosis not exceed 45 ° -50 °, the correct standing position, the onset of systematic sports (such as gymnastics and swimming) and a specialized exercise program will be given by the physiotherapist and refers to abdominal exercises, lower back and gluteal muscle from supine or prone position on a firm mattress without a pillow is better tackle of the problem. Of course all this will be given to the patient if there is muscle spasm spine, otherwise we will have the opposite effect from what we expect. Thus it would be desirable to implement some previous physiotherapy sessions to eliminate pain and muscle spasm.
If kyphosis exceeds 50 ° -80 °, then the torso brace application for preventing deterioration of kyphosis and correction of the shape of ridge is inevitable. The time guardian of application is determined by the evolution of the disease and certainly can not be less than twelve (12) months.
Usually, the vertebrae that are most affected are from T4 to the T12 and a severe kyphosis above 65 ° -70 °, would be a major criterion for surgery.
The surgery is mainly addressed to adults who have experienced serious kyphosis, have pains in the back and waist and have unsuccessfully undergone conservative treatment. The posterior stabilization of the spine in cases where the kyphosis exceeds 70 ° and is usually accompanied by significant complications is the proposed model of the surgery.
The methods of treatment, either conservative or surgery, offer a satisfactory degree of kyphosis repair, so that the patient to regain his interest in the life and reintegration into society.
